We reported about the launch of AT&T 3G service in the United States two weeks ago. We asked for feedback how the new UMTS service performs.

Allen wrote us the following first impressions:
"I’ve been using AT&T’s UMTS service in Seattle and San Jose for 2 weeks an in general I am pretty impressed.

They don’t widely advertise that the uplink speed is 25% of the download speed, but other than this, the service works well.

Big drawback so far is that it only works in supported cities and the novatel card that I use sometimes takes as long as a few mins to turn green and acknowledge that it can connect to the UMTS tower. I don’t know why this is, but it’s a pain."
