Device insurance is never a bad idea. A lost, stolen or broken smartphone generally costs $400+ to replace. Eight bucks a month isn't a high price to pay to ensure you get a replacement if the worst should happen. Of course, if no more models of your smartphone exist, replacements will be hard to come by. Phandroid reports that this nightmare has become a reality for Droid owners.

Asurion has apparently been replacing lost Droids with different smartphones. The Eris, Devour and LG Ally, to be specific. If true, this is inexcusable. Customers signed a contract with the expectation that their Droids would be replaced with Droids. This would be a little more understandable if the Droid was ancient, but it launched less than a year ago.
