LG announced today a new mobile phone for the outdoors in Korea.

LG calls it CanU 502s. I call it Casio G'zOne Type-R. Casio announced this unique looking mobile phone in May of this year. Now there can be two scenarios: Casio licensed it to LG or the mobile phone is anyway made by an OEM company.

Tons of people asked me where they can buy the Casio G'zOne Type-R in the US. But it is only available in Japan. LG phones are present in the US. So maybe LG will bring their outdoor mobile phone to the US. There is a market for this type of mobile phones in the United States. The LG CanU 502s features a 2.2 inch QVGA screen, 1.3MP camera, electronic compass, illuminated clock, a stop watch and USB port.
More details on the LG site (Korean). See also the coverage on AkihabaraNews, they came to the same conclusion.
