Junichi Takeno and a team of researchers at Meiji University, Japan are developing a robot that is able to recognize itself in a mirror.

Not always, but in 70% of the cases the robot can distinguish seeing itself or a similar looking other robot. My cat only knows if there is another cat, but mirror images of itself are not triggering anything.
Sure calling this robot self aware is far fetched, but still it is a fun aspect to teach robots to have them recognize themselves in the mirror.More details on the Discovery Channel site.
