At CeBIT everybody is talking about digital TV on mobile phones, but what actually is already there in several regions in Germany in DVB-T. Several portable TVs and DVD players are on the market now in Germany with DVB-T tuners at affordable prices.

The advantage of a portable DVB-T TV besides the screen size is that it is settled that DVB-T will be rolled out nation-wide in Germany. With Mobile TV there is still no guarantee that a DMB handset will be any good next year. Same risk is with DVB-H, which is currently behind DMB in Germany. Additionally there is cost associated with watching TV on mobile phones. DVB-T in contrast is free.

Amazon Germany offers the following portable DVB-T TVs:

Transonic DVD 3035 7" LCD TV and DVD Player
Teak Style 7" LCD TV and DVD Player
Karcher Blu:s 7" LCD TV and DVD Player
Telestar Digiporty 8" LCD TV
Transonic PTV 3061 9" LCD TV
Portable DMB TVs and devices are swamping the markets in Korea and Japan. It is good to see that Europe is catching up in this area. The United States seems to be far behind that technology trend.

If you live in Germany you can check if DVB-T is already available in your region on this site.
