Digital photo frames are coming down in price all the time. Most people today take lots of digital pictures and a digital photo frame is the perfect place to show those pictures off. Today we are going to look at the new Wi-Fi enabled Sungale ID800WT digital photo frame. The frame does more than just show your digital pictures. Read on for all the details.
Specifications
The Sungale ID800WT uses an 8-inch TFT LCD that has a 4:3 aspect ratio. The screen has a resolution of 800 x 600 and a 500:1 contrast ratio and a brightness of 250 cd/m2. The frame supports JPG, TIF, PNG, and BMP images, WMA/MP3 music formats, and AVI video formats. An integrated memory card reader is offered along with a USB port. No remote is offered, but the frame has a touchscreen for navigating the menus and settings.
In Use
One of the first things I noted when extracting the Sungale ID800WT from its box was that the 8-inch frame is removable. That means you can replace the stock matte black plastic frame with a frame that matches your décor. The frame also has a removable stand on the rear to allow it to stand on a shelf of be hung on a wall.
The device requires an AC outlet for power. Navigating the menus is easy with a full touchscreen integrated. The touchscreen has a matte finish that not only reduces glare, but also prevents fingerprints from gathering on the screen.
In addition to showing images, the frame can also download photos from the Internet, play IP radio stations, offer customized weather reports based on your zip code, show the top ten YouTube videos, display Google News and Yahoo News, and show your Gmail. A digital calendar is also built-in and the device can connect to your PC via USB to upload images to the 512MB of internal memory. One thing that is curiously missing for YouTube is a search function allowing you to watch any video you want. You can only get the top ten videos on the frame.
Connecting the frame to your wireless network is surprisingly easy. All I had to do was scan for networks, touch the network I wanted to join and then enter the network password. Once connected the frame works on the Internet very well. I was very impressed by the quality of YouTube videos on the frame. There was no smearing, tearing, or other issues with video quality and the color was very good.
The same can be said for the quality of still shots on the frame. I uploaded a number of images to the frame and the colors were crisp and clear with dark blacks and good contrast. Skin tones are reproduced accurately and are realistic. The Sungale ID800WT is right at the top of the pack when it comes to image quality. There was no banding, which can be an issue with some low cost frames, with images or video. The 4:3 aspect ratio also means that the images are not stretched or pinched like can happen on some wide aspect ratio frames.

Cons
Verdict
The Sungale ID800WT is easily one of the better digital photo frames on the market with great image quality and video playback capabilities. The Sungale ID800WT is a very good product that will be welcome in any home or office.
