Swiss company Brüco AG offers a trash can for puplic places with a special bomb proof design to protect pedestrians.
In a time of terror fear cities have actually removed trash cans from public places to avoid bombs to be hidden inside. Still you need to be able to throw away your gum somewhere. This is where the 'AbfallHai Protectus' from Swiss Brüco comes into play.
This trash can features a 5mm chrome-steel casing and clear windows made from polycarbonat. Apparently this bomb proof trash withstands a hand grenade explosion inside with ‘minimal’ damage to the surrounding area.
If you stand next to the 'AbfallHai' you still get hurt, but the area the bomb can do damage to is way smaller. A report on German TV I just saw said that Paris is about to purchase several bomb proof waste bins for the Champs-Elysées. The price for one 'AbfallHai Protectus' is about $2,500.
More details on the Brüco site.
