Today I am checking out the last of the three available Unioo chargers. This one is the Unioo i1500 for the iPhone and various iPod models. The Unioo i1500 is an external battery promising more run time for your device. Read on for all of the details on the Unioo i1500.
Specifications
The Unioo i1500 connects to the charge and sync port on compatible Apple devices like the iPhone. It has a 1500mAh battery. The battery charges via USB from your computer and measures 2.44" L x 1.4" H x 0.87" W and weighs 49g.
In Use
The Unioo i1500 is just about the same size as the Unioo i800 I reviewed before. The most noticeable difference between the two is that the i1500 is that it is noticeable thicker than the i800. The Unioo i1500 has three LEDS on the side that glow when plugged into your Apple device to show how much power is left in the battery.
Unioo says that the Unioo i1500 will work with all iPhone models and the iPod touch along with most dockable iPods. The product is Made for iPod and Works with iPhone certified. The battery promises to last through 500 full charge cycles.
I tested the Unioo i1500 with my iPhone 3GS and the iPhone recognized the battery pack right away. The i1500 adds a noticeable bit of weight to the iPhone and it hangs off the bottom of the iPhone. I worried about the weight hanging from the charge port when I was talking on the phone so I held the battery with my hand when I used it.
Like the i800, the i1500 has a small gap between the battery and the iPhone when fully connected. The gap should mean the connector could seat fully if you are using a thin case to protect the device. The i1500 is considerably fatter than the iPhone meaning you have extra bulk sticking out in front and behind the iPhone.
I was unable to test the Unioo i1500 long enough to verify the manufacturers claims of run time. Unioo claims that the i1500 will provide up to 19 hours more audio playback on the iPhone, up to five more video hours, and up to five more hours of talk time.
Pros
Cons
Verdict
The Unioo i1500 works well, but adds lots of bulk to your device. More bulk is better than a dead battery when you are away from a charger.
