NEC announced that it is shipping already sample chip sets that enable to build Blu-ray and HD-DVD hybrid player and recorder.
Combined with the already announced Ricoh optical hybrid component we are all set to get hybrid HD players as early as 2007.NEC Electronics targets monthly shipments of 300,000 chip-sets starting April 2007. I assume we will see several hybrid HD players in the holiday season 2007. First multi-format HD drives might even already be demonstrated at the CES 2007.
