Everyone's waiting for the European launch of the PS3. It's a bit of a muted launch since the North American coverage has already gone through a full cycle, and energy conservation site "sust-it" has revealed some details that make next week's debut even more concerning.
"To take full advantage of the amazing graphics you could be burning 1.4kWh (kilowatts) of power per hour and if you’re a serious gamer that could cost you £1.19 for a five hour session," said sust-it in a press release.Sust-it mouthpiece and energy advocate had this to say: "We expect new car launches to announce more performance with less fuel consumption; it’s a pity that this does not apply to electronic goods. Is it not time for an energy efficiency rating system for consumer electrical goods?"
Sust-it also uses the PS3 as a new example to promote its notion of reducing CO2 emissions and the push to require electronics manufacturers to post warnings on power-intensive devices.
