LG is calling this fridge the first of its kind to integrate an HDTV into the door. The design of the fridge is a side-by-side style that incorporates an LG ATSC-QAM-NTSC digital television tuner to deliver HD images to a 15-inch HD LCD screen.
"As an appliance industry leader in digital convergence, LG Electronics is constantly seeking out ways in which we can create innovative, stylish and functional products," said John Herrington, president of LG Electronics USA, Digital Appliances. "LG is taking this innovation one step further with the introduction of our HDTV Refrigerator by incorporating additional features that further enhance the user experience, from LG's industry-leading digital TV tuner to the Weather & Info Center for weather forecasts, uploadable photo album and recipe bank."
I addition to the HDTV there is a DVD connection on the top of the unit for video playback. I wonder if there are HDMI connections for Blu-ray or HD DVD, which wouldn’t be any stranger than having a HDTV built into your fridge. The left door of the fridge has a four-inch Weather & info center LCD display right above the in door water and ice dispenser.
The small LCD screen can provide weather forecasts, recipe bank with 100 pre-loaded recipes, a digital photo album, and organization tools including a calendar with anniversary reminder. Story and image via LG press release.
