Sharp introduces the industry's thinnest 2MP CMOS camera module.
The 5mm thin 2MP camera module is aimed at mobile phones. The module has auto focus and can process 15fps UXGA resolution video.
Overall measurements of the camera module are 8.5×8.5×5mm.
A phone with this 2MP camera module would still be at least 7mm thick. So that module is not really helping in getting really thin (<5mm) phones. The mass production of the LZ0P39DS will commence in July. The cost per unit is 5,000 Yen (~$40).
