SteelSeries designed the shape of the Ikari to work for the three main methods of grip used by professional gamers; the swipe, the claw and the palm. Five programmable buttons have high quality contacts for precise control.
SteelSeries says the Ikari has the largest foot surface area of any gaming mouse, which is intended to reduce friction between the mouse and mouse pad. With different gamers preferring different types of mice the Ikari is available in both an optical version tuned for FPS gamers and a laser version for RTS and MMO players. Both mice allow you to toggle between two dpi settings, but the laser version also adds a LCD to allow you to see what setting you are at. Neither the SteelSeries website nor the press release mention a dpi range. The photos associated with the press release show 3000 dpi on the LCD.
