Arctic Slashes the Price for the MC 001-XBMC Home Theater Computer

We've talked about Arctic products several times on the site over the years. Typically were talking about computer mice, speakers, and other small items. That's not all Arctic makes, the company also has some impressive home theater set top boxes. The company has slashed the price of its MC001-XBMC set top box by approximately 50%.

The set top box uses a dual core Intel Atom D525 processor running at 1.8 GHz. Graphics are handled via a Radeon HD 5430 GPU and the machine has 2 GB of RAM. Integrated storage is 1 TB via a 5400 RPM hard drive and the box has integrated Wi-Fi.

The system can be used as network storage thanks to the integrated Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity. The little machine even has a DVD burner and optional TV tuners. Connectivity options include optical audio output, VGA output, HDMI output, five USB ports, two USB 3.0 ports, and an integrated memory card reader. The price for the box is $229 compared to the $459 it was priced at originally.

Premiere Of Summit Entertainment's "Divergent" - Arrivals
Home-Theater PCs (HTPC) are a bit of a dying breed. While many people still build and use them, the rise of media boxes and dongles have rendered them a bit unnecessary. After all, something like a Roku takes up far less space, costs less and uses much less electricity than a full-fledged PC. However, HTPCs still have their place in some homes. And so, high quality wireless pointing devices and keyboards are still desired by some consumers. Hell, I run XBMC on Raspberry Pi ...
