Androids sold 74 percent in Q1 2013 with Samsung on Top

According to Gartner market analysisand survey, 1Q13 results are published. In this quarter more than 70% smartphones sold were Android powered. Samsung stands prominent with 30 percent share among all OEM manufacturers. Android’s market share increase by 20 percent from last year. The number of devices shipped around world was 156 million in 1Q13. The total number of units sold was 426 million which just 0.7% more than last quarter. Overall sale of phones declined but increased in Asian region. Almost 226 million units are dispatched by all mobile manufacturers in Asian region.

Among mobile phone sales, Samsung is market leaders with 23.6% share. In 1Q12, it was 21.1% only. Nokia is not having even one percent in smartphone industry. With decline in sales of less features phones, Nokia also faced loss from 19.7% to 14.8% only in 1Q13. Apple Inc. maintains its 3rd position in low end sales also. Other companies like LG, ZTE, Huawei, TCL etc. have very minor increase or decrease.

The gadgets that are more in demand since last few years with sustainable sale are Tablet PCs and Smartphones.
Samsung delivered the quality and stood prominent with more than 30% sale share in 1Q13 among all companies. Total units sold are more than 100 million including its latest products like Samsung Galaxy S & Note series. Apple’s iPhone has stabilized branded market. It has 18.2% part in this quarter which was 22.5% in 1Q12. LG Electronics has 4.8%, ZTE-3.8% with minor market share by others.

Android OS has more response than we expected. The last comScore and Gartner reports show it on 56-57% in OS market. Astonishingly in 1Q13, it powers 74.4% smartphones out of all sold in this quarter. Discussion would be incomplete if I leave BlackBerry and Microsoft in this point. Although BlackBerry doesn’t stand anywhere in table after no response from Z10 and Q10 models which are shipped with BB 10 OS. Microsoft has got some momentum but it is nothing as compared to heavy numbers of units sold under Android banner.

The South Korean company took advantage of price and best features operating system. Apple Inc. has been gaining sustainable role being a brand and loyalty image also. The only factor affecting its sales is price factor. Sources say that company may launch low cost models of iPhone 5 to replace the middle man phone also. China although delivers largest number of smartphones in world. Still it is showing 7.5% increase in market.
