Apple boasts 50 billion app downloads

Not to be outdone with Google's 48 billion application downloads , Apple spilled the beans that its App Store has now reached 50 billion app downloads. Apple has just published a special page to announce the milestone. Written boldly accross the page are the words, "50 billion app downloads. One really big thank you."

Apple says that it will announce the grand prize winner soon - that will the lucky Apple user who downloaded the 50 billionth app. Kudos to Apple for the feat.

Meanwhile, Google has two billion apps downloads more to go to reach Apple's milestone. It will be interesting to see how the numbers will fly in the coming months. Even more interesting is the overall tally a year from now.
