AltaVista is History

Yahoo! announced end of June to shut down one of the first search engines on the world wide web today. Alta Vista is gone and the url redirects to Yahoo now. I still remember using AltaVista. This was well before there was Google. Back then (AltaVista was launched in 1995), AltaVista, Lycos and Excite were the most used search engines. Then came Google and killed them with freshness, completeness and a homepage that just had a search box on it. RIP AltaVista and the (good) old days of the internet. AltaVista was launched by DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) and then changed hands many time finding its final home at Yahoo!.
