Latest Apple stories and rumors for July 23, 2013
Hello again! Deidre here, back to share more stories with you in Apple news and rumors.
Today, Best Buy announced its reinstatement of the iPad 2 and iPad 3 trade-in, where, if your tablet is in excellent condition without water damage and/or screen cracks, you could receive a minimum of $200 (and possibly more) for your tablet, money that could be put to good use with the purchase of a new iPad 3 or iPad 4 (and even saved to reduce the cost of an iPad 5). Best Buy’s trade-in program will start today, July 23rd, and extend to August 3rd. Take advantage of this opportunity if you’re interested.
For those of you looking for a larger tablet than the current iPad 4, you may be in luck. According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is toying with the idea of larger iPads and iPhones this Fall when it announces its new line of products. Most individuals do not know that Apple also considered larger sizes last year, but opted for the iPad Mini’s current size with regard to tablets. We could be looking at 11-inch or even 13-inch iPads this Fall as well as 4.3-inch or higher iPhone displays.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo chimed in today on what he believes are accurate predictions for Apple’s iDevices this Fall. For one thing, he says that we can expect Apple to unveil the iPhone 5S – although initial supplies will be limited. Next, Apple will announce a slimmer version of the large iPad, known as the iPad 5, but there will be no iPad Mini 2 announcement this Fall (according to Kuo); rather, Apple will reveal a non-Retina iPad Mini and a Retina iPad Mini (what we can call iPad Mini 2 and iPad Mini 3) in early 2014, perhaps around March. Since last year was the year of the iPad Mini, this year will be the year to celebrate the large iPad. As for the plastic iPhone, it will arrive earlier to store shelves than the iPhone 5S, seeing that it is an easier product to manufacture.
Last but not least, on a jolly note, Apple will open two new Apple retail stores, one in Markham, Ontario, Canada, the other in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday, July 27th at 9:30am. The Orlando, Florida Apple Store will sit next door to a Microsoft retail store – which should make for interesting jesting from Apple customers and fans. Not sure how the Microsoft retail store will fair once Apple makes a next-door store its home!
