The Ubuntu Edge Campaign got started and for Canonical the sky is the limit. Recent support came from Bloomberg LP in the form of $80,000 after the Indiegogo support of $32 million.
Canonical wants to take Ubuntu Edge to the heights of success. That is why it began a program to raise $32 million per month. However, up until now only $8.5 million have been collected and there are only two weeks to go till the end of the campaign. It just got a boost by a funding of $80,000 in the form of its latest supporter. While a crowdfunding site Indiegogo pledges $32 million too. But it does not look that Canonical is going to make it. At the beginning of the campaign, Ubuntu Edge could be had for pledges as low as $600. As far as Canonical is concerned, the whole plan would go ahead as scheduled only upon the collection of the $32 million.

Ubuntu Edge is a bold move to crowd source the upcoming smart phone progress. Bloomberg happens to be the first major backer at the Enterprise 100 level. While the latest addition of dollars in Ubuntu Edge’s account is good news, it still has a long way to go. The goal of $32 million is a very lengthy distance to cover and time is running out. It would need a miracle to get to that figure in the short amount of duration left. This seems to be a race against time to collect enough funds that will then go on to finance the enterprise. And all that could be expected is some other warmhearted benefactor who would come forward to give Ubuntu a shot in the arm. That may see it through.
