There is a high price we pay on having all things connected to the internet. The latest range of Baby Monitors for instance can be connected to the net so you can monitor your kids from your smartphone or computer. Now ABC aired a report about a family in Texas that had a creepy encounter with a hacker that took controlover their Baby Monitor.
A hacker was apparently able to take over all functions of the Baby Monitor including the speaker. He was shouting at the 2-year old sleeping girl. When the parents entered he addressed them with lewd comments until the father disconnected the monitor. It is not clear how long the hacker had control over the monitor.
It is clear that we have to be aware that anything we connect to the net can be hacked. You need to take basic precautions like changing the default admin passwords.

The “geek mind” is concerned with more than just the latest iPhone rumors, or which company will win the gaming console wars. I4U is concerned with more than just the latest photo shoot or other celebrity gossip.
The “geek mind” is concerned with life, in all its different forms and facets. The geek mind wants to know about societal and financial issues, both abroad and at home. If a Fortune 500 decides to raise their minimum wage, or any high priority news, the geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants to know the top teams in the National Football League, or who’s likely to win the NBA Finals this coming year. The geek mind wants to know who the hottest new models are, or whether the newest blockbuster movie is worth seeing. The geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants—needs—knowledge.
