Maps is on Apple's mind. Following HopStop, the company buys transit app, Embark.

Apple's maps app has more chewing to do, but that may soon change as Apple is now investing heavily to improve the service.

Following its acquisition of transit navigation app, HopStop, former Wall Street Journal reporter, Jessica Lessin, says that Apple has also bought a startup company called Embark. The company is known for developing the Embark app for iOS which is a free transit app. Lessin, however, doesn't have an idea as to how much Apple paid to buy the company.

People with knowledge of the acquisition said that Apple is planning to integrate the app into its current maps technology. Apple has confirmed the deal saying, “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”
