A new movie out now has its characters virtually reliving the JFK assassination. Called “Parkland” it portrays the real story behind JFK assassination instead of delving into all the weird conspiracy theories that have multiplied since that fateful day when Kennedy was shot in the head by Lee Harvey Oswald.
Parkland is a different kind of movie. While most movies rely on the media’s 4S model of sex, sensation, scandal and sports, Parkland gets down to the nitty-gritty stuff. It is a virtual documentary about the Kennedy assassination. Opening to a restricted audience on the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination, the movie will have many thinking hard about what really happened on that tragic day when the best president America ever had was shot dead.
The chaos that ensued once the assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald’s shotgun blasted through air and hit the youthful president squarely in the head is captured in detail. Then the hospital scene of several doctors trying to save Kennedy’s life is ventured into.
A businessman who lived through those times managed to catch the JFK assassination on film. It had lived on in his memory since than haunting his days on earth. Abraham Zapruder was a Dallas businessman who caught camera footage of the presidential motorcade as it passed through the heart of Texas. He was never comfortable with this inadvertent eavesdropping he had partaken in.
The brief video Zapruder shot went on to be the source of much commentary and launched a thousand conspiracy theories. He became part of something he didn’t want to be a part of in the first place. The JFK assassination movie shows the media and its sensationalism that drives the truth out and allows all sorts of false claims to enter in its place. Starring Zac Efron, Billy Bob Thornton and Marcia Gay Harden, the movie is out now. It is must-see material for those who are into serious stuff and shun the superficial dross.
