Amazon Ships 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HDX Today

Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9-inch tablet is now shipping. This is the lightest Amazon tablet with large-screen size of 8.9 inches. Its groundbreaking hardware includes Mojito Fire OS 3.0 with a slew of new features including Amazon Prime Instant Video downloads, X-Ray for Music and a new revolutionary new Mayday button.

8.9-inch Kindle Fire HDX is the lightest large-screen tablet that weighs only 13.2 ounces. Its 8.9-inch HDX display has perfect-color resolution of 339 ppi. In fact, its display has left Apple's new iPad Air display behind in performance.

Peter Larsen, Vice President, Amazon Kindle, said, “This is the best tablet we’ve ever built, and we can’t wait to see what our customers think. The 8.9” Fire HDX is startlingly light—at just 13.2 ounces, it’s the lightest large-screen tablet. This is combined with a 339 ppi, perfect-color HDX display, 3x the processing power, 2x the memory, 4x the graphics performance, and backed by Fire OS 3.0, with exclusive features like the revolutionary new Mayday button—and all of this is just $379, much less than you’d pay for a comparable tablet.”

Dr. Raymond Soneira at DisplayMate Technologies says that Kindle Fire HDX 8.9-inch display is the most advanced display present on any tablet. He said, "“Most impressive of all is the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, which has leapfrogged into the best performing Tablet display that we have ever tested, significantly out-performing the iPad Air in Brightness, Screen Reflectance, and high ambient light contrast, plus a first place finish in the very challenging category of Absolute Color Accuracy.” Its review list is full of good words. All big tech sites praised its light weight and advanced display technology.
