The 1987 film RoboCop featured the Cold War along with its Cold Warriors. Today with the reboot sequel of RoboCop 2014, the times have radically changed. Machines have taken over our lives and the tussle between the Free World and the Soviet Union has ended. It is a world of drone attacks and ideological info-wars that we face in the present times.
The use of sophisticated machines such as robots in war is an inescapable reality now. The previous version showed fighting in broken down lawless situations of inner city life. This time the basic features will remain the same with a few additions. Set in 2028, the movie will be a thrill to watch as is evident from the trailer.
"Judging by the new trailer, Padilha’s film will get at this by showing that roboticized police forces in the future (the movie is set in 2028) are serving and protecting in countries around the globe – but not America," according to Wired.
The basic question the sci-fi flick puts before audiences is that: if America uses its technology abroad for the purpose of maintaining peace, why not use it domestically too? It is a legitimate query. This has overtones of the robotic forces turning inwards towards their own provenance.
The much-awaited Orwellian film will debut in February of next year. 12th February 2014 is the announced release date of this movie. It will definitely be an action-packed thriller. And with Michael Keaton and Joel Kinnaman starring in their respective roles, it will be a must-see movie of 2014. The interface between man and machine is dissolved in this bionic biopic of humanity gone wrong.
