USS Gerald Ford Carrier Christening is Live Online

Today the newest American aircraft carrier gets christened. The christening of the Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) carrier will be streaming live online at 11am EST.

America has a new high-tech vessel. The new Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) is the first of a new class of aircraft carriers. It is the first new design since USS Nimitz, which was launched in 1972. The USS Gerald Ford has been completely redesigned and is able to launch more aircraft more quickly and costs less to maintain.

President Gerald R. Ford was the 38th President of the United States. His daughter, Susan Ford Bales, is the ship's sponsor and will be performing the traditional honor of breaking a bottle of American sparkling wine across the ship's bow during the ceremony.

You can watch the christening of the Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) at Newport News Shipbuilding on Livestream.
