Amazon has hooked up with the US Postal Service to deliver packages to people on Sundays. The service has begun in the Los Angeles and New York metropolitan regions for Amazon Prime members. Other US regions will get the service in 2014.
In tandem with the US Postal Service, Amazon is ready to ship packages to people in LA and NYC on Sundays. Most Amazon Prime members have the choice of two days of free delivery on lots of items. They too will be able to gain access to goods on Sundays.
Amazon’s VP of worldwide operations and customer service, Dave Clark said, “If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can order a backpack for your child on Friday and be packing it for them Sunday night. We’re excited that now every day is an Amazon delivery day and we know our Prime members, who voraciously shop on Amazon, will love the additional convenience they will experience as part of this new service.”
The plan will be extended to include a large part of the US population next year. Dallas, Houston, New Orleans and Phoenix are some of the cities that the service will be coming to. In other words, if you happen to be an Amazon Prime member, you may order a backpack for your kid on Friday and have it ready for them to take to school Sunday night. This is a miracle of modern day shipping and planning indeed. The fact is that now virtually every day of the week is a shopping opportunity for Amazon customers. And they are avid and omnivorous consumers. They literally shop till they drop.
Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer, Patrick R. Donahoe said, “As online shopping continues to increase, the Postal Service is very happy to offer shippers like Amazon the option of having packages delivered on Sunday. With this new service, the Postal Service is now delivering packages seven days a week in select cities. Customers can expect the same reliable and valued service that the Postal Service currently provides.”
This joint union between Amazon and the US Postal Service is a partnership of a lifetime. It will be mutually beneficial for sure. The days of snail mail with its slow delivery time are over. Besides, by increasing the number of delivery days to three instead of two for Prime members, more clientele will be attracted towards the desired deal.
