Top Search Trends of Americans in 2013

The topmost search trends on the Bing search engine for this year include celebrities such as Beyonce and social sites such as Facebook. These search entries reflect the temper of the times we live in. And these are indeed interesting times.

Top Search Trends of Americans in 2013

Bing has so many people visiting it in order to browse for a variety of subjects from sports trivia to music albums. The top search items whether human or non-human make for an interesting survey. Pop star Beyonce for example remains the most searched person of the year 2013. Kim Kardashian was on top last year. But she holds #2 position this year. Most of the people who grabbed the upper slots were all female reflecting the times of feminism and gender equality we are living in. The only males to make it to the list of top ten individuals were Justin Bieber and Barack Obama. Rihanna, Madonna, Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus were right there among the top ten searched persons with their awe-inspiring songs.

The list of most searched persons of 2013 is as follows:

  1. Beyoncé Knowles
  2. Kim Kardashian 
  3. Rihanna 
  4. Taylor Swift 
  5. Madonna 
  6. Justin Bieber 
  7. Nicki Minaj
  8. Amanda Bynes 
  9. Miley Cyrus 
  10. Barack Obama

As for sports stars, Tim Tebow was top cat. Lindsey Vonn is at #2. Tiger Woods with his golf links experience was at the #3 spot. Kevin Ware and Ray Lewis are at #4 and #5 respectively. Lebron James was dribbling his basketball at #6. Danica Patrick holds 7th rank followed by Dwight Howard and Derek Jeter. Finally Maria Sharapova with her tennis shots was in the final position at #10.

The sports team that made it to #1 was as usual the Dallas Cowboys. Miami Heat and New York Yankees are at #2 and #3. The New York Giants and Chicago Bears are at #4 and #5 respectively. Baltimore Ravens is the 6th most searched sports team of the year 2013. And the Detroit Tigers and Miami Dolphins too figured in the equation at 7th and 8th rank. Atlanta Braves and Green Bay Packers are the at 9th and 10th position on the list of most searched sports teams.

Among most searched musicians, Beyoncé is on top again. Rihanna is the 2nd most searched musician of the year and Taylor Swift occupied the #3 spot. Madonna, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus are on 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th rank respectively. The last three entries went to Britney Spears, Kate Perry and Selena Gomez.

As for songs that were most likely to get listened to online: Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors” and Miley Cyrus’s “We Can’t Stop” held there own among 6 others that surpassed them. The most searched song of 2013 is “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Robin Thicke's “Blurred Lines” is the 2nd most searched song of the year. Rihanna's “Stay” is at #3 with Imagine Dragons' “Radioactive” at 4th. Jason Derulo's “The Other Side” and Bruno Mars' “When I Was Your Man” are also above Justin's song. Pink's “Just Give Me A Reason” and One Direction's “Best Song Ever” are the only 2 songs that are below Miley's song.

The social media sites had Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter filling the top three chattering categories. Facebook remains the top most searched social media platform this year again. Facebook came on top for the second year in a row. LinkedIn, Instagram, tumblr, Reddit, Vimeo, Vine and Google+ are all below Twitter in ranking order.

Netflix happened to be the streaming site par excellence. And Microsoft’s Xbox was the best electronic amusement device.  The most watched movies were Iron Man 3 and Fast and Furious 6. Victoria Beckham was the fashion designer whose clothes were up grabs and last but not least Pizza Hut, Hawaii and Weight Watchers were the most extensively searched food item, holiday destination and slimming diet respectively.
