Apple has risen above Dell and sold more than the expectations of its execs. According to a new research by Parks Associates, many of Apple products have been the top selling brands around the world. Among desktops, tablets and media streaming devices, it is precisely Apple Incorporated which has the top notch position. And while being #1 may be an enviable spot, Apple will have to be extra vigilant if it wants to retain its high popularity ratings. Even its MP3 players were up for grabs.
“Apple topped the list of intended brands for desktop purchases for the first time this year,” said John Barrett, director, Consumer Analytics, Parks Associates. “In 2011 and 2012, Dell was the top desktop brand, but Apple has displaced it, making Apple now the most popular brand across even more key CE categories.”
Meanwhile, for the past two years or so, Dell was the world’s #1 desktop brand. But this year Apple has given it a hiding and come up on top. And although Apple TV was way above the rest from 2011-2013, sometimes all the customers really want to buy is a Roku instead.
The fact that Apple wound up on top may be a case of the insecure king. As the saying goes “Uneasy is the head that wears the crown.” That is because the competition is really tough when everyone is out to get you. Just because Apple is top cat today doesn’t mean it will remain so forever. The public is a very fickle entity and changes its mind at the drop of a hat. That is why Apple ought to consolidate its slot and remain careful lest it slip in its standards by resting on its laurels.
