Cosmonauts Face Snag During Spacewalk

Russia’s cosmonauts compete on an equal footing with American astronauts. Two cosmonauts recently faced a slight hitch in their record-setting spacewalk due to the malfunctioning of the HD cameras. After the cameras were placed in their designated spots to film the spacewalk, there was trouble in the image-catching functions.

Oleg Kotov and Sergey Ryazanskiy took a total of eight hours working outside the International Space Station in order to install the earth-watch cameras. This mission was accomplished for the sake of the Canadian company, UrtheCast. However, just a few minutes after the task ended, there were reports of data deletion from the imaging devices. This was a serious issue indeed.

There seemed to be some technical fault in the cameras and their hookup paraphernalia. The real reason behind the snag remained unknown though. The cameras were supposed to broadcast images of planet earth from outer space into cyberspace for net enthusiasts. But it failed in its objectives. Had the mission been successful, anyone could have logged on to their computer to view anything going on anywhere on the face of the globe.

When the expected results never materialized, the two cosmonauts were given orders to return the devices to the inner sanctum of the space station for repairs. Millions of dollars have gone into the funding drive behind the mission. The spacewalk is a part of a record breaking series of attempts by both astronauts and cosmonauts.
