It is bound to be the ultimate red carpet showdown. The 2014 Golden Globes that is.
Add those nominated for their television work like Julianna Margulies, Kerry Washington, Elisabeth Moss, Sofia Vergara and Helen Mirren and you’ve got a red carpet event that will send style watchers to fashion heaven.
Expectations are high for Blanchett’s gown because she is one of a handful of actresses who truly brings her A-game to the red carpet. She can wear edgy designs with the same élan flair she lends to a classic silhouette. Her choices also often ignite dialogue — and sometimes debate — among insiders and editors versus fashion laypeople. Her more cerebral choices often go over the aesthetics of the strapless-mermaid-hem crowd. Case in point the lilac Givenchy gown she wore to the 2011 Oscars with the square shoulders and the round cut-out in the bodice, which to me was pure fashion.
What makes this Golden Globes red carpet worth watching this time is the mix of dressers. Like Blanchett, you have Scandal‘s Washington and The Good Wife‘s Margulies who both gravitate to more “editorial” styles. You also have those with known fashion allegiances who can command something custom-made for them. Roberts, who is nominated for best supporting actress for Osage County, will most likely wear Armani Prive given her close relationship with the designer. And Jennifer Lawrence is sure to wow in something from Dior, perhaps couture.
Then you have Gravity‘s Bullock who favors long, lean silhouettes, Mirren who can serve up serious fashion and Vergara who brings the sizzle to the red carpet.
If this is anything to go by, the Golden Globes red carpet is bound to be more than a strapless dress parade.
