The secret identity of the Salvadorean nun who gave birth to a healthy baby boy last week has been revealed. Her name is Roxana Rodriguez.
Word about a nun in Italy who gave birth to a baby boy dominated the headlines last week. The Salvadorean nun, who was kept confined at a convent in Rieti, previously denied having a relationship with a man, saying that she was unaware of the pregnancy.
But the Italian newspaper, Corriere Della Sera, finally managed to uncover the real of the controversial nun. Her name is Roxana Rodriguez, a 32-year old nun who recently took her vows in September last year. Her order, the Little Disciples of Jesus Order, strictly practices three vows: poverty, chastity, and obedience.
According to the paper, Sister Roxana admitted having a secret relationship with a man in her home town, El Salvador. Although the nun did not name the father of the child, Father Benedetto Falcetti, a priest in Rieti, said that it all happened in last spring, around March or April. The nun apparently went back to El Salvador to renew her passport. The priest is suspecting that the man is an old lover of hers.
"She has not said who the father is but I understand he is an, shall we say, old flame of hers from when she was younger," Father Falcetti said. "At some stage I expect she will tell the father that he has a son and they will be reunited but I don't know when that will be."
Meanwhile, her order is angry of the news, let alone the scandal that she caused. "No we must certainly not be going to visit her. What she has done is not right at all. She has betrayed her vows. She will not be coming back here," a fellow nun told Corriere Della Sera.
