It is tax return filing season and, although things will hopefully work out just fine in the end, various issues have cropped up along the way. Besides the governmental shutdown some time back another glitch which makes the procedure even more complicated is imitation sites that charge for free form filing.
The taxpayers are facing a conundrum of sorts as issues are being raised over the legitimacy and overall functioning of the IRS tax filing system. The most recent problem that has everyone dazed and confused is a faux website that seduces ordinary innocent citizens into paying for what is an otherwise free-of-cost procedure.
Then the government shutdown (or should we call it breakdown) that occurred awhile back has caused the date of file entry to be shifted ten days into the future. Instead of January 21st, it has now been procrastinated to January 31st. The headache that the tax returns have generated will not go away so easily.
The misleading site along with the delays has created scenario of confusion. Gone are the good old days when things were simpler. The complex society that we find ourselves in today is full of scams and swindlers who don’t lose any opportunity to bamboozle the public.
And it is the legitimate and legal-rational government whose image suffers in the end. The start of electronic-filing and discarding of paperwork is a transition that will not be covered in one easy stride. It will need some getting used to before the process becomes a smooth one.
