North Korea is one of the leading countries in the world where dictatorship reigns. It recently issued a warning to the US-South Korea annual joint military drills that were to take place close to the borders. Such threats are a common feature of Pyongyang’s erratic behavior in relation to the external world.
North Korea, known for its draconian laws, has issued a stern warning to the United States and South Korea. It wants them to stop any military drills near the border separating the two Koreas. This is not exactly a new happening. Similar overtures have occurred before and have proven to be mere oral orders.
There is little chance of a full scale nuclear war happening between the two Koreas. Thanks to the role of the United States of America as global policeman, the chances for such an occurrence are slim.
North Korea made it clear that any such exercises using weapons will be regarded as a hostile sign by their government. The military drills could have dire consequence according to the officials of the straitlaced state.
There was more blustering in the form of warnings that any action by the United States and South Korea could result in full-fledged nuclear war. Meanwhile, the United States and South Korea have retaliated verbally to this dictation of terms and conditions by saying that they are ready for any aggressive move by the North Korean state.
There have been many such incidents in the past where the two Koreas came close to war. But each time the mutual deterrence due to possession of weapons of mass destruction by both sides led to a de-escalation of belligerent behavior.
