Ford claims that Ford Focus has again held the world's best-selling car title for the third time in a row. Will Toyota agree with this claim?
Ford says that the double-digit worldwide growth of Ford Focus strengthens the car's lead as the world's best-selling vehicle nameplate. Although Focus was left behind by other small cars in the United States, it has seen strong growth worldwide and especially in China.

Ford has claimed in the past two years that Ford Focus is the best-selling car in the world. Ford made these claims on the basis of independent sales data. But Toyota rejected its claims on both occasions. Toyota claims that its Corolla is actually the #1 seller in the world.
This year again, Ford has said that Ford Focus continues to be the best-selling vehicle nameplate in the world. And Ford made this claim on the basis of the latest vehicle registration data released by Polk global. This data is the latest that includes vehicle registration information from January to September 2013.
Ford announced that the global registrations of Focus increased more than 16 percent year-over-year amid strong growth in China. And Ford Focus global registrations grew to 856,587 from January through September 2013. China is the major player as 303,481 registrations are from its domain. This has also made the Ford Focus the best-selling passenger car nameplate in China.
Ford also says that it now has two of the top five best-selling nameplates in the world thanks to Ford's One Ford plan and global product vision. Ford's global growth is driven mainly by Focus but now Fiesta has also joined it. Both the Focus and Fiesta had a combined total of 1,402,555 vehicle registrations during the period from January to September 2013 based on Polk data.
