X-Men producer wants standalone gambit film with Channing Tatum
The X-Men films have done pretty well at the box office. Some of them have been more popular than others, but they have all done well enough that more films are in production. The next film in the franchise is set to hit theaters in a few months. Antler film is coming in 2016.
One of the producers of the X-Men films, Lauren Shuler Donner has said that she wants to do a film that focuses on Gambit. She also says that she wants Channing Tatum to play the lead role. Donner says that the film would be a smaller scale film. She says Tatum is on board and she only needs to convince the studio reports IGN.
"I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum," Donner said. "That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart."
The last time we saw Gambit on film was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In that film Gambit was played by Taylor Kitch. Tatum started talk gin about playing Gambit while doing press for the film White House Down.
"I would like to play Gambit," Tatum told reporters. "Gambit's my favorite. I'm from New Orleans, around that area. My dad's from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real."
