The Olympian gymnast, Gabby Douglas is to have a biopic made on her life. A movie starring Sydney Mikayla and Imani Hakim will be coming soon.
The Winter Olympics are nearly here and Black History Month too is coming. Thus the time is ripe for a biopic on the life of Gabby Douglas. She happens to be the first African American to be an all-time winner in gymnastics. This is one woman who has found her way through sports.
She had a mother who had four kids and separated from her husband. Her mother had to work really hard to support all her children and especially to fuel Gabby’s career. The struggle and drive that powered Gabby Douglas to make the impossible possible is the stuff which inspires legends. And she has taken it with a lot of humility and poise.
Regina King plays the role of Gabby’s mother in the movie. The pain and pressures she took and tolerated for the sake of her dear daughter are a very moving tale of the strength of a woman. Two other movies are also coming up soon. They are “Flowers in the Attic” and “Lizzie Borden took an Axe”.
The Gabby Douglas Story portrays how a young female mind can be encouraged by her guardian to reach for the stars. And it also depicts the hard work and dedication that an African American has to apply in her life to achieve what lies out of reach. It is a truly amazing look at the power of belief and how it can conquer the odds that are stacked against a person in a racist society.
