He celebrated the end of his yearly hiatus at sea by drinking from a can of coke. A Mexican fisherman, Jose Salvador Albarengo began his journey with a teenager Ezekiel in a boat in order to catch some sharks. But someway into the trip their vessel’s motor stopped working.
Soon they were down and out in the high seas. Ezekiel died because he refused to eat any raw meat. But Jose was not going to give up without a fight. He battled the natural forces of sun, wind and rain by sheltering himself via a tarpaulin on the fiberglass boat.
When his hunger reached unmanageable levels of desperation, Jose resorted to catching turtles and drinking their blood for energy. He also caught birds and ate their flesh. Then there were various fish and sharks that he managed to catch and kill.
Jose ate the meat of the animals he killed in a raw state. His sidekick died due to the fact that he couldn’t digest the raw avian meat. The authorities are confirming Jose’s story, since there are a few missing facts in his narrative. Finally, he is being reunited with his family which he left behind in El Salvador.
