Just a few weeks after signing Hedo Turkoglu, the Clippers announced the hiring of 29-year old Sasha Vujacic. The Slovenian athlete, nicknamed "The Machine" because of his insane shooting skills, signed a 10-day contract today.
He is expected to play on Monday night when the Clippers goes head to head with the Denver Nuggets.
Clippers coach, Doc Rivers, has been eyeing on Vujacic since January. “I like Sasha. I don’t know if we’ll go with him right now but I do like him a lot,” Rivers told ESPN in January.
Having been able to win back-to-back championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010, Vujacic will be the only player on Clippers with a championship ring.
Although the news is exciting for fans, experts think that Vujacic will be no more than an insurance policy. The team's star point guard, Chris Paul, has been sidelined because of a shoulder injury. Sources say Paul is coming back in early February.
For the meantime, the Clippers will get an extra firepower from Vujacic.
After leaving the New Jersey Nets in 2011, Vujacic played for the Anadolu Efes, a Turkish professional basketball team, where he averaged 9.1 points per game and shot 37.6 percent from the field.
Vujacic will wear uniform number 18 for the Clippers.
