The case of a man taking upskirt photos in Mass. led to some new legislation. The law against Peeping Toms is being revised thanks to this weird criminal act.

A Massachusetts court ruled in favor of an ordinary criminal who was caught making upskirt photos of women and minors in a bus. The surreptitious pictures were taken furtively and although they didn’t show any nudity, the act itself was very abnormal.

It was a clear cut case of voyeurism. The lenient stance taken by the judge was simply due to no such existent law condemning the crime. Taking nude photographs is a crime that is punishable by a jail sentence of two and a half to ten years and a fine ranging from $5,000 to $10,000.

Yet when you take an image of what lies under a woman’s skirt, the law is silent if it is just underwear. This mismatch in law-lines is a source of controversy and truly evokes the quip that “the law is an ass”.

This case of criminal conduct in an individual being let off so blatantly led to a government official making an appeal for stricter measures to be taken. Others have called it an invasion of a woman’s privacy and something that should definitely not take place no matter what.

There is widespread discontent among ordinary citizens since it is felt that the law has made a huge blunder here. Instead of following the true spirit of the rules, the empty letter has been stressed which is a big mistake indeed.

The hairsplitting debate over nudity and partial nudity made the mass. upskirt photos case a headache to settle in court. Yet when seen from the perspective of privacy and confidentiality, the very situation reeks of meddling and perversion.

Finally, it seems a law has been enacted willy-nilly that makes upskirting a misdemeanor. It is a moment of pride for the government which has forced the legislature to pass this upskirt photos law. Those who think they can get away with upskirting in the future are sorely mistaken.
