Stallone has oversaw the musical since inception
I have always been a fan of Sylvester Stallone going back to the 80's when he was an action movie staple. For some reason I have always been surprised that Sly can write such cool screenplays. He wrote the original Rocky and wrangled it so he could star in the film.
This week Stallone attended the premier of a new musical based on Rocky in NYC on Broadway reports ITV. I didn’t know that the original Rocky film was based on a book that was co-written with Thomas Meehan.
Stallone has looked over the musical since it started. The musical sound as if it follows the movie well, following boxing upstart Rocky Balboa as he gets his chance to go the distance with champ Apollo Creed. The musical had its world premier in Germany and then moved to the US to premiere here.
Other Hollywood stars joined Stallone for the premiere in New York including Wesley Snipes and Whoopie Goldberg. Director James Cameron also attended.
Goldberg said, "The story of Rocky is the story of every person who has a dream. That's what I love. There's no mystique. This is all about us, it's America's story. I think that's why people love it."
