The Walking Dead: the Grove is the umpteenth episode of the series. And it takes horror to its limits.
Already the rumors were flying here, there and everywhere. This episode of The Walking Dead was supposed to take things past the normal limits of gruesomeness and grotesqueness. And that is exactly what happened.
Words such as huge, absolutely watchable and much talked about were rife throughout the industry about this special episode. Such intensely horrific scenes as Lizzie taking a knife and killing her sister Mika are standard fare. She does this in order to prove that Mika would come back to life.
Meanwhile, Carol than goes on to use a knife to savage Mika’s brain so that she doesn’t reappear as a zombie. Then there’s the equally sad and shocking scene of Carol shooting Lizzie in the brain point black. It’s a series of violent and surreal steps that are shown being taken in this episode. Watch at your own discretion.
The zero-empathy shown in the scenes makes for an adrenaline-raising time. When Carol owns up to Tyreese that she was the one who killed his girlfriend Karen as well as David, the fact that he has the tolerance to forgive her for these heinous crimes is a big shocker in itself.
Parts of the series resemble the comic book version. In the comic book, Ben, after inflicting cruelty on an animal and killing it, goes on to kill his brother Billy so that he would be resurrected. The list of mindless violence and horrible acts of injustice and madness just goes on and on.
There seems to be no end to the cycle of vendetta-like, vomit-worthy killings. It is indeed a pretty sick show that will have people viscerally affected whether they like it or not. And the only choice many who are faint of heart will have is to just switch off the channel.
The Walking Dead: The Grove is not for little kids chewing gum and blowing bubbles. It’s for those with a lot of toughness who can stand the ugliness shown on screen.
