Russian President, Vladimir Putin has been called one of the greatest leaders in the world by the tough no-nonsense martial artist, Steven Seagal. According to Seagal, he may in fact be the greatest world leader ever.
The macho man, who has appeared in several movies, furthermore criticized what he termed as the idiotic mistakes of the US with respect to Russia’s policy in the Ukraine.
For one thing, Vladimir Putin and Steven Seagal are both martial artists. They thus have a lot in common as fierce fighters. And recently, Putin decided to start a fitness program in Russia inspired by the Stalinist era. Maybe Putin will make Steven his deputy and put him in control of the exercise scheme to make Russians a fitter people.
Termed “Ready for Labor and Defense”, the program has been funded from the leftover wealth after the Sochi Olympics which Russia hosted recently. Russia won an average of 33 medals and this has made Putin quite happy. It has inspired him to start the physical fitness scheme.
Putin spoke of how the Olympics and Paralympics had proved once and for all that Russia was a world leader in matters of sports. Regular exercise that made the body strong, tough and flexible was the goal of the program. The whole strategy included a lot of running, skiing, swimming, rope climbing and pull-ups.
In the era of Joseph Stalin, shooting firearms and throwing hand grenades were a part of the program as well. After Putin heard of Steven Seagal’s ingratiatory remarks about him, he invited him to Russia and shook hands with him amid a cheering crowd of people.
“I want to be polite and say I don’t know him very well,” said Seagal, in an interview last year. ”I would like to think I know him well. But I know him well enough to know that he is one of the greatest world leaders, if not the greatest world leader alive.”
The two definitely seem to have a lot of chemistry going on between them. Seagal is somewhat of a celebrity among the Russians too. And Putin also needs someone from the opposing camp to support him at this time when his popularity is at an all-time low due to human rights abuses at home.
