In the capacity of Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Program, Connie will travel the globe bringing succor to females who are living beneath the poverty line and facing harrowing conditions. Connie is very lucky since only a handful of other individuals have been chosen to lead the way in this regard. She spoke of how it was sad that women do almost 70% of the world’s work yet they earn only 10% of the world’s wealth.
The UNDP director spoke of how he was thrilled to have Connie joining the ranks of the organization. “We are thrilled to have Connie Britton join UNDP’s efforts to fight poverty worldwide,” said UNDP Director for External Relations Michael O’Neill.“Connie is passionately committed to humanitarian causes and she will be a great partner for UNDP, helping us raise awareness of development issues amongst the American and global public.”
The end of poverty on a worldwide level was the noble goal. And the actress is very serious about the whole issue of impoverishment among females and the poor of the global village. She said that she has traveled the world and seen people living in such extreme destitution that it seems almost unbelievable in today’s highly progressive age.
“In my own travels, I’ve seen many places where people are living in extreme poverty. It’s unacceptable that, in 2014, one billion people live in such conditions, and a full sixty per cent of the chronically hungry in the world are women,” said Ms. Britton. “I look forward to working with UNDP to help change this and improve the lives of vulnerable people worldwide.”
You realize that not all is well with planet earth when you see people especially women who form one half the human race slaving away without any compensation of any sort. Connie is to raise awareness regarding this important issue and she will be doing her utmost to benefit those in dire need of solace and help. Among the previous Goodwill Ambassadors that the UNDP has employed are Antonio Banderas and many soccer players.
