Ozzy Osbourne may be awarded Knighthood

A fan of Ozzy Osbourne signs an online petition for Ozzy Osbourne to receive a Knighthood. And now the list of petitions included approximately 5000 people. And each and every one of them has signed up in favor of the singer Ozzy Osbourne. They want him dubbed knight in England.

It all started by Ozzy Osbourne's fan Helen Maidiotis who signed a petition to Honours and Appointments Secretariat - Cabinet Office (U.K.) David Spooner. She states:

"I am petitioning for Ozzy Osbourne, frontman for Black Sabbath to receive a Knighthood after over 40 years of service to the music industry. Birmingham born John Michael Osbourne, has been entertaining and inspiring a great many throughout his life, he has been a huge success world wide with many successful albums with both Black Sabbath as well as in his solo career. Now in his mid 60's, I believe the time has come for him to receive a Knighthood. Please consider Mr Osbourne for this honour as it is well deserved and long over due."

Actually Helen first wanted the whole band to be awarded with Knighthood. But “unfortunately, David Spooner (who is in charge of honours in the UK) said that it is highly unlikely the whole band would get a knighthood and that I would have a better chance with a single member of the band. So I chose Ozzy Osbourne as he is the voice of Sabbath,” Helen told Birmingham Mail.

Knighthood is not just a wartime honor. Any person, be he a scientist or an artist or even a teacher or author is worthy of being awarded a knighthood by the king or queen of England. The only proviso is that the said personality must have contributed something valuable towards the national interest.

When it comes to Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne, things are a little murky though. While Ozzy did make quite a few treasured records, and was a big name in the heavy metal genre, he also took part in controversial practices like biting the head off a live bat.

There are many Christian organizations that have only spouted vituperative speech against Ozzy. They claim that his music is loud, obnoxious and full of chaos. But Helen really wants to do this. She also has a facebook page titled “The Knighthood Of Ozz”. And this page is even backed Ozzy’s daughter Kelly and a former guitarist of rock legend’s Bernie Torme.

Helen said, "Our campaign has reached Buckingham Palace, as a friend of mine had sent off letters explaining about our battle for Ozzy’s knighthood - and they have replied positively."

Furthermore, they say that it reeks of Satanism. Indeed, one of the songs of Ozzy is about a famous Satanist named Aleister Crowley.

But Ozzy begs to differ from all these fundamentalists. According to him, he even regularly prays before his concerts. Then there is the case of teenagers committing suicide after hearing some of the instigating lyrics of his songs.

While Ozzy emerged from the lawsuits that were filed against him unscathed, the reputation stuck and he has been cited as a bad influence upon kids and teens ever since. Finally, there is the issue of his intoxicated fits of irrationality and weirdness. In one of his bizarre acts of brutal viciousness, he bit the head off a live pigeon.

Then at another occasion, he decided to go the whole hog and bit the head of a live bat. And the bat in turn bit him so that he had to undergo medical treatment for rabies. These embarrassing facts stand as impediments to his knighthood. Otherwise his accomplishments remain in a league of their own.
