Katharine McPhee Files for Divorce From Nick Cokas

Katharine McPhee has made her split from husband Nick Cokas officially over after 6-years of marriage.

The "Smash" actress has filed for divorce from her producer husband.

A rep for McPhee confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE, "After six years of marriage, and having been separated for the past year, Katharine McPhee has filed for a dissolution of marriage from Nick Cokas. The two have an amicable relationship and will remain friends. They ask that people respect their privacy during this time."

A source close to McPhee told People magazine no outside parties played a role in their split. "It was just time. They'd grown apart and weren't right for each other anymore."

The 30-year-old "American Idol" finalist, who was the center of cheating scandal last year when photographers caught her kissing married director Michael Morris, has filed for divorce.

"She is SO embarrassed she was caught," a source told Us. "She should have known better!" (Morris has appeared to have since made up with his wife, actress Mary McCormack, with whom he shares three young daughters.) McPhee, for her part, also tried to work on her marriage with Cokas, 49, in the aftermath.

McPhee and Cokas had reportedly reconciled after the affair with Morris, who is married to 'West Wing' actress Mary McCormack.
