Actress Emily Blunt recently talked about acting in a movie with Tom Cruise, infants and the fine art of meanness.
Just some time back, Emily Blunt would have jumped at the opportunity of performing in a second-rate theatrical than working side by side with Tom Cruise in a movie.
Now that her latest movie Edge of Tomorrow is out and she appears in it with none other than Tom Cruise, she is getting all defensive about it. She claims she never spoke about such a thing.
But finally when she is shown her words in newspaper print, she starts laughing at the top of her voice and says that it is the opposite case now. Tom Cruise has a subordinate role besides Blunt in the movie. She is a demolition woman of sorts. This fact alone wins her many accolades in Tinsel Town.
Tom Cruise also talked about picking Emily Blunt for 'Edge Of Tomorrow'? "I saw her work very early on and her work as an actress, and I just really admired [her]," Tom told Access Hollywood's Tim Vincent at the "Edge of Tomorrow" junket in London on Monday. "She's got great taste, as her choices in terms of within scenes, tremendous power on screen."
"We were looking for someone and immediately [director] Doug [Liman] and I talked, and we just wanted Blunt to play this," Tom said. "I thought what the potential of this character can be, and that dynamic, you know, and I met her."
Emily and her husband, John Krasinski, who is an actor and writer, just had a small baby girl. Among her list of friends may be included: George Clooney, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux.
Emily leads a normal life despite the celebrity status she has achieved. Her friends are the type she can relax with without any hang-ups or complexes. And the fact that she has a baby daughter means that she stays grounded and doesn’t let fame get to her head.
“I don’t feel I lead a glamorous life. Most of the people we’re friends with are people you can just hang out with,” Blunt told Telegraph's Helena de Bertodano when they met recently at a coffee shop near her house in Ojai, California. “You should have seen us this morning. It was… well, not chaos, but like everyone else in the morning with a small baby.”
Emily follows a gluten-free diet and says it makes her feel more alert. Despite having been a resident of California all her life, Emily loves certain English customs such as pubs. She also took the birth of her daughter very normally.
Yet she gushes on and on about the beauty of having a six week old daughter that you get to breastfeed. Her movie Edge of Tomorrow was filmed before she became pregnant. In it, Tom Cruise is seen getting caught in a time warp of sorts. Emily’s character shoots Cruise many times.
"I met Doug and him for the first time and it was great," Emily said. "I felt immediately brought into the creative process and they very much wanted to build the character with me." "Edge of Tomorrow" will hit theaters on June 6.
Emily Blunt still can’t believe it that she is a celebrity. “Sometimes it hits me like a train. The chances were so mega-slim,”she said. “I think this job found me. I certainly wasn’t on the prowl for it. Not to sound irreverent, because I take it so seriously and I love what I do – but it’s never been everything to me. It’s something I have a big love affair with but it doesn’t consume me to the point where it’s all I am.”
And she had to show some controlled cruelty while learning Krav Maga, which is the official martial art of Israel. You may even bite in an attempt to subdue your enemy in Krav Maga. Now that puts the meaning back into meanness.
