The US Patent and Trademark Office has published Apple’s patent for a new iPad cover, and it is a sight to behold. This new Smart Cover is meant to make the iPad experience even easier, no matter where you are or how you are carrying your device.
According to the patent that they filed, this will be a large improvement over the current covers that are sold with iPads, which completely obscure the screen. This new Smart Screen will feature low-power LEDs that light up to alert you to notifications on your iDevice. This will all be powered by either a Bluetooth system of hardwiring with a MagSafe cable.
Other designs, however, show a flexible screen that allows light from certain parts of the screen to shine through, giving you access to your notifications in ways that the current design can’t do. This will also include the ability to show alerts at different portions of the screens depending on how urgent it is and the priority level.
In either case, though, Apple will have tow irk around the current design, that detects when a cover is on iPads and disables alerts in order to save power. We still don’t know when something like this will see the market, since Apple is known to patent technology long before they ever release something, with many future iPhone designs being a primary example of this. Stay tuned to see when you can start looking forward to this new Smart Cover that will greatly improve the kind of experience you have with your Apple tablet.

The “geek mind” is concerned with more than just the latest iPhone rumors, or which company will win the gaming console wars. I4U is concerned with more than just the latest photo shoot or other celebrity gossip.
The “geek mind” is concerned with life, in all its different forms and facets. The geek mind wants to know about societal and financial issues, both abroad and at home. If a Fortune 500 decides to raise their minimum wage, or any high priority news, the geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants to know the top teams in the National Football League, or who’s likely to win the NBA Finals this coming year.
