Keira Knightley is often seen in historical dramatic scenes on screen. That is her forte and she often chooses to stick with what she does best.

But recently the actress, who was nominated for best actress in 2006 for her role in "Pride & Prejudice," decided to change tack and opted for a different type of acting experience in “Begin Again”. This is a positive movie about a musical artist and how starting all over can sometimes be beneficial.
The film will be released in nationwide theaters next month while it was released in limited theaters yesterday. It was penned down by the Irish John Carney. “Begin Again” has a lot of shiny happy musical numbers in it and besides Knightley, Adam Levine plays a role too.
Keira Knightley admits that she had to practice a lot for the movie since it was not her usual shtick. She had to make a monumental change and singing or music was hardly her thing.
In fact, it was an improvisation film and so a lot of the stuff had to be made up on the spot. But it was a fun and exciting process on the whole.
"The whole thing was out of my comfort zone. I am not a singer. I didn't know how to do that," Knightley said in a recent interview.
Keira had to train her voice to sing in the required manner for the film. Knightley plays Gretta, a wishy-washy singer who arrives in NYC along with her friend Levine who on the contrary has achieved fame.
Levine leaves her stranded and she is close to giving up when a producer (Mark Ruffalo) finds her and takes her to the top.
"A lot of the film was improvised, and I had never done that before. I'd say that those two were major things to be grappling with," added the 29-year-old actress.
The movie is about people down on their luck and how they get up again over and over in order to achieve their dreams. It is a part-romance and part-success story.
"Essentially, what it is about is people falling down in life and trying to pick themselves back up, whether that is romantically or whatever," said Knightley.
Ruffalo spoke of how he wouldn’t mind doing a Broadway version of the film since it was so inspirational. There are two females which play Ruffalo’s turned-off spouse and his rebel daughter in the film too.
"I like the meditation on the character's journey back to his creative self from this material world, and coupled with a mid-life crisis and a marriage that is going through a transition," Ruffalo said about the role.
Basically, it is all about pursuing your path with a heart. The essential message is to forget about the audience or even about what is right and wrong and just hitch your ride to a star.
“Begin Again” cast include Catherine Keener, who plays the role of Dan's estranged wife, Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, who play the role of his rebellious daughter, and 2012's Tony winner for best actor, James Corden, plays the role of Gretta's struggling musician friend Steve. Yasiin Bey and Grammy-winning rapper CeeLo Green play the roles of Dan's music colleagues.
