Emma Watson is in for a little questioning. Immigration officials are investigating into the fact that she supposedly kept a US housekeeper illegally while she was living in the UK.
This of course is a crime although it may not seem too serious a misdemeanor to many. She may be fined to the amount of 10,000 pounds (nearly $17,000).
The maid performed chores for Emma at her two million pound estate in London. And all this took place while she was there in the UK for tourism purposes.
As everyone knows tourist visas don’t allow anyone to engage in employment while in the UK. The housekeeper had previously been employed in Emma’s NYC apartment.
She was stopped when she came to the UK and asked whether she intended to work while there. After the news reached the authorities that the housekeeper was helping maintain Emma’s London mansion, they began a probe into the matter.
A source at the Home Office told The Independent that they "wouldn't routinely comment on individual cases".
Emma’s housekeeper had been in the UK for approximately three months. The time lapse between the months of September 2013 and February 2014 was the period in which the housekeeper remained on duty in the UK and that too illegally.
The punishment for this sort of breach of regulations could be a fine of 10,000 pounds which will be imposed by the Home Office officials.
Emma had been staying in the United States where she was studying English Literature in a university. Now though she is in the UK.
On Monday, June 30th, she was even supposed to attend the British Prime Minister’s party at his traditional residence on Downing Street. She has not yet given any response regarding the illegal housekeeper she kept for so long.
It’s a fact that many people in high places especially our stars and starlets tend to think they are above the law. But the law has a way of sneaking up on them unawares and bringing them to justice. Such seems to be the case with Emma Watson too.
