Zooey Deschanel on Feminism and Bullying

Hollywood actress Zooey Deschanel has something in her nature that refuses to budge when pushed by society. 34-year-old Zooey appears in the August issue of InStyle magazine that will be available on newsstands and for digital download July 11.

In an interview to the magazine, she said that she hates mommy questions. When you ask her if she wants children, she just starts on a rant about how she is a feminist and that “who wants kids?”

“Like every woman is dying to give birth! I don’t think so. Nobody asks guys that,” she said. “And you go into a supermarket and every tabloid is like, ‘Pregnant and Alone!’ Stuck in the 1950s ideal of how a woman should live her life. This brings out the fiery feminist in me.”

In many ways, she is a bittersweet person and has a no-nonsense attitude of take-charge self-actualization. She is not a softie. She is mean and bossy in her daily habits.

And as far as work life is concerned, she is a serious busybody. In the capacity of a musical artist and actress, Zooey Deschanel truly shines. She appeared in New Girl and also acted for The Driftless Area in Canada. She has been nominated for Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award.

She’s been working in synch with Tommy Hilfiger. And she has also recorded a new album in the process. In other words, she is one fit and fighter-like woman who knows how to have her own way in things.

Zooey gives her parents all the credit for inspiring the spirit of creativity in her. They were always busy helping her do one project after another. And that is how she found her vocation in life.

“I was lucky to have parents who were really, really supportive in terms of creativity. We only went clothes shopping twice a year, but every single day of the week I had something else I was learning to do,” Zooey said.

Today she is a creative artist and it is all thanks to the years spent working in various mediums of endeavor. And while it’s not like she will be having kids soon, she is a self-made woman who can make her own decisions.

A family may not be out of the question in the future. But that future is a long way off. Zooey Deschanel already separated from her husband some time back and although she has a boyfriend currently, she is not revealing much about their relationship.

“I’ve seen a lot of people turn—sometimes it unlocks who they really are. They turn into celebrities who are separate from themselves. That’s OK, but I just don’t want to be like that,” she said. “I have to be normal. My mother wouldn’t let me be any other way.”

Zooey finally discussed the travails she had to go through during 7th grade. All the cruelty and punishment at the hands of bullies was something which toughened her till she was literally made of steel.

When you have someone spit in your face as you are going to the locker room, it brings out the side of you that wants to fight injustice in the real world.

The “geek mind” is concerned with life, in all its different forms and facets. The geek mind wants to know about societal and financial issues, both abroad and at home. If a Fortune 500 decides to raise their minimum wage, or any high priority news, the geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants to know the top teams in the National Football League, or who’s likely to win the NBA Finals this coming year. The geek mind wants to know who the hottest new models are, or whether the newest blockbuster movie is worth seeing. The geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants—needs—knowledge.
